Transformation Mindset in the New 2017

Transformation starts by changing how you look at problems and goals in life. With even the slightest cleanse in our thoughts, the opportunities are infinite. Whatever we choose to focus on becomes our reality. It is when we let go, free our minds, we can create something awesome that we have never seen before.

Do this exercise with me and turn PROBLEMS to promote, release, overcome, bless, liberate, empower, motivate, and strengthen. Now you will form a new view to the word PROBLEMS.

Obstruct to overcome
Block to blessing
Limit to liberate
Embattled to empowered
Mundane to motivation
Stress to strength

2016 is gone and 2017 is a new beginning. Allow yourself to transform your mindset and start anew, forming new habits by doing these 3 things.

To quote Shiv Khera, “Research has shown that it takes 31 days of conscious effort to make or break a habit. That means, if one practices something consistently for 31 days, on the 32nd day it does become a habit. Information has been internalized into behavioral change, which is called transformation.”

  1. Overcoming excuses and believe in your actions

    We should waste no time on excuses. As a physical therapist, I treat patients of all ages. Some older patients will tell me their age and expect me to go easy because they are happy where they are. Are they really happy just sitting in their recliner chair all day or are they just giving themselves excuses so they don’t need to work? Maybe it is not your age that is stopping you to transform, is it time? Or maybe you say “I am very busy with my family so I don’t have time to change and form a new habit”. Stop letting excuses take hold of the reality that you want! Life is a reflection created by your perception, it is time to change it when you allow it to be changed. Our entire time on this planet is determined by how we view our reality. We are in control of our life and perception, so walk down the aisle with your caps and gowns and graduate to become a new person you will be truly proud of. No one said it would be easy to consistently work on and believe in your true potential. It requires time, people who believe in you, support groups, mentorship, and daily motivation to keep a habit going. When I was about to take my board exam for physical therapy, I posted stickers of who I would become all over my room, I practiced daily motivation in the mirror for 15 minutes to remind myself that I am can do it. It may not have been the best way but it was a way I could consistently commit to in my daily routine. Actions + consistency = results!

  2. Turning negative into positive

    Listen to your inner thoughts, take a moment now and hear yourself speak. Do you always speak in a negative way or do you say positive things to encourage those around you? If you keep speaking positive thoughts like a broken record, it will become real. In Jeen Sincero’s book, You Are A Badass, she suggests, “Listen to sentences that begins with ‘I always…’, ‘I never…’, ‘I can’t…’, ‘I should…’, ‘I suck at…’, ‘I wish…’, ‘I want…’ as oppose to ‘I will…’ or ‘I am…” One of my divorced friends tells me that he cannot find anyone who believes in working on marriages anymore in America. Is that really true? I am sure there are many successful marriages with couples who are happily married. Understand the “why” behind your statements. Maybe you are overweight but lack discipline. Believe in your true potential despite all circumstances. Use the power of your thoughts to change your negative attitude and to change your life.

  3. Understanding pain and don’t be afraid of it

    When you feel awful or in physical pain, you’re less motivated to want to do anything. Perhaps, people will come over to check on you, bring you food, do your chores, give you comfort and a sense of community when you are in pain. This allows you to not try too hard and gives you permission to stay at this phase of your life without people judging you. Take control of your own life and understand where the pain is coming from, don’t live with it or avoid the problem. I recently saw a patient living with low back pain for several months because she thought it would get better on its own. After her evaluation, she understood the origin of her pain and changed the way she performed certain movements, alleviating the pain in her back. Once we find out the cause of our problems, it becomes much easier to move forward or let go of things hindering you from changing and starting a new beginning.

Let us start 2017 by transforming our mindset, engaging ourselves with a new perception of positive thoughts, letting go of the old baggage, and embracing the new you. Commit to a set of new goals to start the year and motivate yourself by surrounding yourself with positive people, finding professionals to help you handle problems that you cannot, and start to envision the new you.
